Presentations

The resident should develop the following attributes: oral communication with specialist and non-specialist audiences, teaching skills, employability, professionalism, and critical appraisal of the literature. For this purpose, the resident must complete the following requirements:

Four presentations over the course of the residency;

  1. One presentation at a national/international conference
  2. One ECEIM Journal Club presentation
  3. One presentation at a client communication event to a lay audience
  4. One teaching seminar- for students, interns, nurses, or referring vets

For the purposes of the one national or international presentation, a presentation is defined as a verbal presentation of an abstract or formal lecture which should be a minimum of 15 minutes duration, including questions. Posters or "Flash" presentations are not accepted.

The definition of "National or International Conference" is an in-person or on-line meeting including delegates nationwide or internationally, which is open to participants from outside of one organisation. A conference organised by a practice, corporate or university should be open to attendance by other interested stakeholders (veterinarians, veterinary nurses, associated professions, scientists) if it is to be approved as a national or international presentation.

iii/Non-veterinary international and national scientific or medical conferences or conferences on related scientific subjects such as microbiology, pharmacology

The following proof of presentation should be available upon request.

a) For National/International/Presentations, submission of a copy of the programme showing the name of the resident and title of presentation, or an email confirmation from the conference organiser showing the resident's name, and the title of the presentation and date.

b), c), d): For presentations within the resident's own organisation, for local practitioners, within a corporate or university or for events organised for a lay audience, a copy of the advertisement and/or programme for the meeting or brief written description of the programme, presentation and target audience should be available upon request.
