ECEIM Associate Member

Thank you for your interest in becoming an ECEIM Associate member. The steps to become an Associate member are listed below:

Associate Status

ECEIM Associate Status grants veterinarians with advanced training in equine internal medicine but who are not eligible for ECEIM Board-certification to enjoy a limited number of benefits typically granted only to ECEIM Diplomates (e.g., reduced registration fees at the ECEIM congress, opportunity to attend Advanced Continuing Education courses, opportunity to attend the Specialist day at the ECEIM congress, and others).

Associate Status Fees

There is an initial non-refundable application fee to be paid at the time of application. There will be no annual dues.

Benefits of Associate Status

Associates will be eligible to receive the following benefits from their status:

  • Reduced fees (and priority registration, if applicable) for ECEIM educational programs and products when available.
  • Reduced registration fees for the ECEIM congress (including priority registration for limited attendance events).
  • Qualified to apply for ECEIM grant opportunities
  • Qualified to serve as reviewer or judge for ECEIM congress abstracts
  • Member access to the ECEIM website and online community
  • Use of the Associate member ECEIM title and ECEIM logo

Items not included as benefits:

  • Ineligible to vote on ballots (including Board elections) being considered by the membership
  • Ineligible for election to the ECEIM Board or committees
  • Ineligible to serve on any examination or examination rating committees. Ineligible to serve as a chair on any standing committee of ECEIM
  • It is important to note that ECEIM recognition of a specialist does not confer specialist status in the eyes of EBVS

Anticipated Clinical and Scientific Training

Individuals applying for Associate Status are expected to:

  • Be a graduate of a college or school of veterinary medicine and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in their country of residence ;
  • Have completed a minimum of three years of post-graduate clinical and/or research training in equine medicine and/or science ;
  • Have completed a research project or participation in research training comparable to the ECEIM requirements.

Credentials as an Associate Member

The applicant should establish a track record of work as a specialist in the internal medicine field by:

  1. Publishing in the relevant veterinary literature
  2. Attending and/or presenting at international meetings
  3. Being actively engaged in the practice of a specialty related to the progress of equine internal medicine
  4. Explain how you can positively contribute to the development of the ECEIM

Process for Approval of Associate Status

  • Candidates for Associate Status should use the Associate member (re-)accreditation form to initiate the process.
  • The candidate should provide a CV and a description of their training (above) and also a list of publications and presenting at the international meetings relevant in equine internal medicine (please also provide 3 papers published during the 5 last years).
  • The ECC (Education and Credential Committee) will complete initial review of the application package.
  • After the candidate's background and credentials are deemed appropriate for Associate Status, the ECC Chair of ECEIM will present the application package to the ECEIM Executive Committee for approval by majority vote.
  • Associate status will be maintained for 5 years. A re-accreditation process will have to be done every 5 year.
